Media Relations Game Night Employee - Buffalo Sabres (Buffalo, NY)

2017-18 Buffalo Sabres Game-Night Employee


Duration of the NHL and NLL seasons, September 2017 through May 2018 (subject to change)


Game-night employees will be responsible for assisting the full-time public relations staff on game nights and at special events. The position is meant to be an initial experience in sports public relations and the game-night employees will be involved in a wide range of activities related to the public relations operations of the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bandits.


Ideal candidates should be pursuing or have a recent degree in public relations, journalism or a related field and have some type of experience in sports. Strong writing skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and a hard-working, outgoing personality are desired attributes of a candidate. Selected employees should also be flexible and able to adapt in high-pressure situations.


  • Assist with credential distribution and greeting media
    • Press box setup and operations

    • Distribute period stats/game notes, run materials to broadcast trucks, assist with in-game notes.

    • Record home and visitor player audio, record and transcribe postgame coach press conferences, assist with putting together postgame media email.

    • Employees will also potentially complete long-term projects during scheduled office hours. This can include media guide research work, assisting with game notes, conducting interviews, writing for team publications and other projects as needed.

Media Relations Assistant - Seasonal - Buffalo Sabres (Buffalo, NY)

Job Summary:

To assist in the day-to-day operations of the Buffalo Sabres media relations department.

The media relations assistant is a part-time, seasonal position that will begin in September 2017 and run through the duration of the 2017-18 National Hockey League season and 2018 National Lacrosse League season. Applicant must be a recent college graduate.


  • Compiles and distributes a daily press clip packet.

  • Writes and distributes news releases.

  • Prepares media credentials for home games.

  • Assists in writing, compiling and preparing the team’s game notes and statistical hockey information to be distributed to the media.

  • Assists in writing, research, editing and production of the club’s annual media guide, yearbook and postseason guide.

  • Assists with the execution of organizational events as needed, including the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship.

  • Works as needed with visiting broadcasts as a stat tracker on game nights.

  • Acts as the primary media relations contact for the NLL’s Buffalo Bandits on a day-to-day basis during the season, serving as editor of all team publications.


  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or related field required.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the National Hockey League and professional sports.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends and all Sabres/Bandits home games.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure. • Excellent verbal, written and administrative skills required.


Valid driver’s license.

Public Relations and Community Relations - Part Time - Rochester Americans (Rochester, NY)


The duties and responsibilities of this job entail, but are not limited to:

Public Relations:

  • Writing articles and press releases in order to maximize content and promote the team in a positive manner

  • Setting up/staffing press box on game days and distributing statistical information

  • Provide assistance in facilitating player/coach interviews and handling other media requests

  • Aid in the development of team publications (media guide, yearbook, game notes, media kits)

  • Provide assistance with website management and the team’s social media platforms as needed

  • Serve as the on-site PR representative during team practices as needed

  • Organize press clippings and photo archives

    Community Relations:

  • Provide assistance to the Public Relations department in all the teams’ community outreach initiatives, often serving as the primary on-site contact

  • Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and fulfilling all appearance and donation requests under the direction of the Public Relations department

  • Work with local charities and businesses to send players, mascots, and staff to community events.

  • Promote community events through press releases and media advisories, take photos and video at events, and publish post-event stories summarizing the team’s involvement at the appearance


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop

  • Experience in Website management preferred

  • 20-30 hours a week

  • Light travel may be required

  • Must be available to work all Amerks home games and contribute regularly to road game coverage.

    This is a part-time paid position.
